Fall 23 Edit Pt.1

For many, myself included, Fall marks a new beginning for the style calendar. But for an introspective Virgo like me, this new season also sparked a much more symbolic fresh start.

I’m officially in my 30’s, further establishing what my career will consist of, trying to plan for my future, sorting through the global chaos and really honing in on who I’m becoming. Am I overthinking things? Maybe a bit, but nevertheless, I’ve channeled a lot of that restless energy into refining my seasonal aesthetic.

I’ve come to a personal understanding that trends don’t really move the needle for me. I’ve always been clear about what will and won’t work for my taste in various aspects of my life, so I try to echo that methodology with my wardrobe. It’s important that I can maintain a growing archive while infusing relevant updates when I crave a bit of newness. And fortunately the older I get, the more comfortable I am with my overall sense of self, so my style should continue to reflect the ease to which I’m evolving.

The first notable step in this evolution was finally buying the vintage designer bag of my millennial dreams. And, to say that I manifested this purchase would be an understatement. It’s been a permanent fixture on my moodboard for the past couple of years as I began to think about how to set the tone for this next defining decade. But, I put no strategy in place to acquire it other than to browse vintage stores when I traveled to France and prepare my bank account accordingly. So on the last day of my trip to St Tropez, after finally finding a store that was still open, to walk in and immediately B-line for the iconic black Balenciaga in the corner brought literal tears to my eyes. Everything happened exactly the way it was supposed to, just as it always has.. and that’s the inspiration I’m letting guide my next chapter.

With that in mind, I’ve curated a list of some current obsessions. From puffy outerwear to cozy knits, I’ll be exploring new ways to layer for the foreseeable future. If you’re on still on the fence about balaclavas, let this one from Assembly New York be your sign to invest. I also snagged this hooded scarf combo from Zara because I’m constantly struggling to keep track of all my cold weather accessories when out and about, so just sew them together at this point.

Underneath all of that outerwear, I still want to feel like my looks have shape and dimension. To each their own, but right now the last thing I want is to become some wooly, amorphous blob. So I’m leaning on knitwear with some elements of drapery. These off the shoulder sweater and top options from Source Unknown will be in heavy rotation. Throw them on with some slouchy denim or a silky bottom layer, depending on the occasion, and you’re good to go. But in order to show a bit of skin, I’m making moisturizers an even bigger priority because these falling temperatures are NO joke. One of my go-to’s has been the Buttah Skin Coco Shea cream. It’s whipped texture makes the formula feel super light while leaving my skin soft and dewy, shoutout to Black owned skincare.

And, it wouldn’t be a cold weather edit without tights! Not sure how experimental I’m willing to be with different patterns and hues, but these cheeky slogan sets from Saint Sass are my new fave. Then I’m pairing them with these adjustable, mid calf boots from Highly Sensitive Person and you can too with my code “share-accordingtoarinyc-254” for 20% off a pair of your own, or any other item on the site. Thank me later :)

I could go on forever, so I’ll wrap it here. Stay tuned for part 2!
